Frequently Asked Questions
I need to host NAVISION, ERP application or other software. Do I need a private cloud?
The main reason you might want to use a private cloud or virtual private cloud instead of our public cloud plans is because your application needs one or more of the following:
– physical hardware is specified as the requirement
– Active Directory is needed for the application
– you require a firewall service for your network
– you need a higher volume of storage or usable disk space than 1 TB
Microsoft Dynamics NAV or any mid-level ERP software application will be suitable for private cloud plans because it provides an environment for multiple networked servers within an isolated network. Additionally, out-of-the-box options for larger scale storage, backup and managed security mean that you have a fast, ready-made stable and reliable cloud environment for you and your users to use your applications.
Other situations where a private cloud is ideal include:
– If you want to host an application in your SimplerCloud private cloud, and access it through your office with site to site VPN
– If you want to host Desktop-as-a-Service style applications
– If you want to host a second server to run redundant cloud backup
– If you want to host application/databases in your with half public interfacing, and private backend access for your developers

What’s the difference between public cloud, virtual private cloud, private cloud, and dedicated servers?
If you have a network diagram or a specific application to host, please contact us so we can propose the best solution from our service ranges for you.
Here are some general ways to think about our different service offerins:
Public Cloud – Simple Servelets
Public cloud plans are full internet servers with unique kernels and unique IP addresses.
Virtual Private Cloud
These are most similar to hybrid cloud plans. They are cloud plans with customisable computing resources, allowing you to set how many VMs (cloud servers) to launch within your Virtual Private Cloud. They have additional internal networking capabilities, and allow for site-to-site VPN, load balancing and firewall.
Private Cloud plans are full scalable server pools with multiple pre-installed virtualisation options. These allow you to host and maintain your own dedicated private cloud within the SimplerCloud network, controlling all access and configuration information. Private Cloud plans come with options for firewall, load balancing, managed switch and managed backup add-ons for enhanced redundancy, continuity and security.
Dedicated servers are also referred to as bare metal servers and are fully customizable physical servers that can be used for any information software.

Can I purchase dedicated bandwidth for my private cloud plan?
Yes, we provide custom dedicated bandwidth plans from 10mbps and up. Please contact us contact us with a the volume of bandwidth required so we can assist you.
How are the private cloud plans secured?
All our private cloud plans are built with security in mind, with all the platform layers: hardware, operating system and virtualization platform to use the latest stable versions, with all the latest patches and updates installed at the time when the service is provisioned.
All the plans also use dedicated and private hardware, which is not shared by other customers. The virtualization platform for that specific private cloud is used solely by you. This ensures that not only you get all the full physical computing and storage resources that your private cloud has (without sharing it with other customers), the possibility of “internal attack” from other customers’ VMs within the cloud will be eliminated.
Our pro and enterprise private cloud plans also come with a managed, dedicated hardware firewall, giving them a secured private network behind the firewall’s security policy, separated from the Internet and other private and public cloud clusters on the network. Optional site-to-site VPN between your office and the private cloud can also be established for secured management of the private cloud through a VPN tunnel for enhanced security. For our basic private cloud plans, optional managed firewall (host-based) service can also be subscribed as an add-on service.
On top of that, we also provide a wide range of other managed security services to complement and further enhance your private cloud’s security.
I have a Virtual Machine (VM) image in .OVF, OVK, VMDK, or other. Will it work in the Private Cloud plans?
VM images for any of the following virtualization platforms will work with the Private Cloud plans:
